World Diabetes Day 2024: The International Diabetes Federation ( IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) established the World Diabetes Day in 1991 to increase awareness due to higher diabetes rates globally, and it was made an official United Nations holiday in 2006. It is recognized on November 14 since that is Sir Frederick Banting's birthday, who found insulin in 1922 together with Charles Best. Diabetes is a chronic, catastrophic, and often deadly disease in which the body cannot either release insulin or use the insulin it makes adequately. Insulin is a hormone which regulates the movement of blood glucose (sugar). Diabetes gives rise to high levels of blood sugar which can harm organs, blood vessels, and nerves. The body requires insulin to utilize sugar as a form of energy. As a policy, World Diabetes Day activities aren't scheduled centrally. Instead, a range of organizations and people decide to organize and coordinate events and activities.
Story
The date selected for the day also has a short story of itself. November 14 was chosen for the day because it was the birthday of Frederick Banting, Canadian scientist who was the first to use insulin on humans for treatment of Diabetes.

Complications Associated with Diabetes
Having high blood sugar may cause issues related to diabetes, such as chronic kidney disease, joint issues, non-traumatic lower limb castration (leg, foot, toe, etc.), eye disease, which can lead to blindness, cardiac attack , stroke, anxiety, nerve damage and erectile dysfunction (men). Health problems associated with diabetes can be very severe, and even life-threatening. The sooner an individual becomes diagnosed with diabetes the better it is. Maintaining the blood sugar levels properly helps to prevent the risk of developing diabetes.
Importance of World Diabetes Day
There are days like these when diabetes as a condition of disease gets the importance it requires to activate a new urgency for a remedy. It helps carers and diabetic patients to get the respect they deserve. It also inspires people who have never been involved with the diabetic group to leap first in the head, and to help side by side with activists. And the most noticeable effect is that, with each passing year, it makes our cumulative opinions loud enough to be noticed in a whole different way, and with greater attention.
If you've been diagnosed with diabetes, monitoring your blood pressure, heart, urea & creatinine, and cholesterol levels is critical. It is also advisable that you get tested your eyes frequently. Early diagnosis is as great as prevention. It is wise to contact your doctor before you start making any changes to your diet or start exercising, since they may be able to more effectively evaluate your requirements and capacity. Try incorporating more refined carbs when it comes to diet. Whole wheat flour is better than maida any day. In your diet, add nutrients rich food or soluble fibre such as Isapgol, as it may help to lower your cholesterol levels. Start with basic walking workouts, in the beginning. Try to walk for shorter periods of time more often in the day, instead of walking for a prolonged period at a span. Slowly, as the health improves you can expand the amount of exercise.
