Trying to find a last-minute guy gift that seems thoughtful, unique, and, um, like you didn't buy it the day before Christmas, feels almost impossible — and rightly so. But just because you're strapped for time doesn't mean that you should skimp on quality or creativity when it comes to finding the perfect presents for your dad, boyfriend, brother, or any other man in your life. Enter these better-than-a-boring-tie gifts that will arrive at your doorstep (or his!) before Christmas morning.
To save you precious time and energy, we went straight to the source to find out what guys really want for Christmas this year. We surveyed 100 men of varying ages — most between the ages of 35 and 64 — to find out exactly which gifts, services, and experiences they're hoping to find under the tree this holiday season.
One thing's for sure: Classic gifts still hold up. Eighty-two percent of the men we surveyed would rather unwrap a practical gift than something sentimental. Keeping that in mind, 65% also aren't a fan of personalized or monogrammed gifts (even though Mom might argue otherwise).
And while some gift-givers prefer to think outside of the box, it's clear that some of the clichés surrounding men's gifts exist for a reason. When asked to rank which gift they'd most like to receive this Christmas, a majority said they'd prefer a bottle of their favorite booze, closely followed by wireless headphones, grillware or cookware, and a quality pair of gloves. Even though wireless headphones and fitness trackers have been on the market for a while, men still want 'em — more than half of the men surveyed ranked them as the top two tech gifts they'd like to unwrap this year.
Subscription boxes, the ultimate last-minute gift, also remain a hit. But take note: Men are more interested in receiving clothing subscriptions than food or booze options. But if you really want to go all out, the men we surveyed were all in on experiential gifts, particularly a nice dinner or a trip to see their favorite sports team play.
