Vat Purnima Vrat is similar to Vat Savitri Vrat. Married women observe Vat Purnima Vrat for the well-being and long life of their husband.
Most of the festivals in Amanta and Purnimanta lunar calendar fall on the same day. Purnimanta calendar is followed in North Indian states, mainly in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana. In rest of the states usually Amanta lunar calendar is followed.
However, Vat Savitri Vrat could be considered as an exception. In Purnimanta calendar Vat Savitri Vrat is observed during Jyeshtha Amavasya which coincides with Shani Jayanti. In Amanta calendar Vat Savitri Vrat, which is also called as Vat Purnima Vrat, is observed during Jyeshtha Purnima.
Hence married women in Maharashtra, Gujarat and southern Indian states observe Vat Savitri Vrat 15 days later than that of North Indian women. However the legend behind observing the fast is same in both calendars.
According to legend great Savitri tricked Lord Yama, the lord of death, and compelled Him to return the life of her husband Satyawan. Hence Married women observe Vat Savitri Vrat for well-being and long life of their husband.
Subh Muhurat-
इस साल वट सावित्री व्रत 3 जून 2023 को रखा जाएगा. इस दिन सुहागिन महिलायें वट वृक्ष की पूजा करती हैं तथा बरगद के वृक्ष की परिक्रमा करती हैं और सात बार कच्चा सूत लपेटती हैं.

Vat Savitri Puja Vidhi-
Wake up early in the morning and take a bath
Wear fresh clothes and get ready by doing solah sringar.
Collect all the Puja ingredients and place them on a tray or a basket made of cane.
Then place the idol Satyavan and Savitri to the left at the bottom of the tree's trunk. Leave some space and play the idol of Lord Yama to Satyavan's right. Offer water, five fruits, incense sticks, red cloth, and vermilion to the idols.
Then start circumambulating the tree and do as many parikramas as possible - 11, 21, 51, or 108 times while winding the yellow and red thread around the tree's trunk.
Listen to the legend of Savitri and Satyavan. After going home, the fruits offered as prasad can be consumed. Later in the evening, one can consume sweets.
Importance of Vat Savitri Vrat-
- As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that the Vat (Banyan) tree stands for ‘Trimurtis’, representing Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, and Lord Shiva. Devotees worshipping the banyan tree are said to be blessed with good fortune.
- The significance of the fast is mentioned in numerous scriptures and Puranas like Skanda Purana, Bhavishyottara Purana, Mahabharata, etc.
- Hindu married women fast and undertake puja of Vat Savitri to seek prosperity, good health, and longevity for their husbands.
- Observing Vat Savitri Vrat is considered a token of devotion and true love of a married woman for her husband.
